Guest mode vs. an account¶
You can use every feature of Student Planner without ever signing in.
Guest mode¶
Choosing Continue as guest starts a real (anonymous) session, but everything you enter — schedule, tasks, tests, study progress — stays only on that device, in its local storage. Nothing is ever uploaded. This means:
- It works fully offline, on the very first launch, with no signup step.
- If you clear your browser's site data, or uninstall the app, that data is gone for good — there's no backup, because nothing was ever synced.
- It won't show up on another device. Guest data is tied to the browser/device it was created on.
Signing in with an account¶
Signing in (Google or email/password) syncs your data to the cloud, so it's available on every device you sign into. If you were already using the app as a guest, signing in upgrades that same session in place — everything you'd already entered as a guest comes with you automatically, nothing is lost or needs re-entering.
If you sign in with an account that already has its own data on another device (say, you set the app up on your phone first, then sign in on a laptop that also has guest data), the laptop keeps showing its own local guest data until you explicitly create a new account — signing into an existing account doesn't silently merge two separate sets of data together.
Switching later¶
You can start as a guest and create an account at any point from the Profile menu's Create an account button — nothing is lost in the process.
